"I've almost completely gone through this book and I can confidently say that it is pretty much how I learned not just multiplayer in Lumberyard, but general tips and usage of the game engine. The instruction and guidance in this book delivers a very step-by-step experience from learning the very basics to the advanced topics that can be applied to any type of multiplayer game programming.

If you are looking to fiddle with any multiplayer programming in Lumberyard (or just trying to learn networking in general even!), I HIGHLY recommend skipping any samples that have been provided by Amazon in the past and go straight to this. The few tutorials / documentation I've came across while attempting to learn multiplayer before this book have only made things more confusing and I really wished I had found this sooner.

P.S. This book is up-to-date to current versions and there is no worry about compatibility with the current state of Lumberyard at the time of this review (1.14)."

  • Many game engine books focus on what the author knows. They put strange amounts of details on some things, and then explain a complex topic with one abstract paragraph.

This book's way of delivering information is great. The beginning and most basic chapters are the smallest (though still detailed) and the later more complex chapters are the longest - as they require more understanding.

Also, you will not find any "miracle code" in this book. Everything is explained.

One last note this book is probably good for getting started with any multiplayer programming _in general_, not only for Lumberyard. (Though Lumberyard is a great game engine.)
